Atemahawke (2007) by Porter

What’s the most beautiful set of sounds I’ve heard from a mexican band recently.
The answer would be Porter’s only album, Atemahawke, released in 2007, which is one of the most daring and original albums that I’ve ever head in a long time.
The band explores a lot of sounds and textures, rhythms and worlds, all with a unique sound that seems like the result of years of playing music. But in this case, the band was still young and that’s what makes this record so amazing.
Intriguing lyrics (most of them in spanish) adds to the bizarre but never seem pretentious, they go well with the nice guitar work that’s both rocky and ethereal.
Kudos to this short-lived band that truly deserved more. Their only single, Host of a Ghost (sung in perfect English) is a delicious combination of pop, indie rock and just plain weird that it’s so easy to listen and already seems like a classic.
After the break-up, the singer went solo, by the name Juan-Son, which I’m still checking out, but already seems worthy.
